Cyclocross Nationals began today in Bend, Oregon. Over the next few days 35 national titles will be awarded in various categories with over 2,000 racers expected to compete.

Team Roaring Mouse is proud to send Katy, Timmay, Paule, Julie, Hankus and several other teammates up to Bend to tear it up in the snow.

Organized by Jenny Oh and an army of other volunteers, the SMSW is possibly one of San Francisco’s largest alley-cats drawing racers all the way from L.A. The top rider in the cargo category this year brought in over 300lbs of food alone.

Greetings mountain bikers,

We have all heard about how this State budget mess is impacting State
Parks but now it’s impacting CDF and specifically Soquel Demonstration
Forest (a.k.a Demo).

If you’re a mountain biker then you know that Demo is the best LEGAL
place to do technical/DH style riding. We received notification that
due to the budget problems the funding at Demo will be severely cut
and all their remaining resources appear to be focused on the timber
harvest – which brings in revenue.

Also, the porta potty – which is generously provided to the community
by Specialized Bikes – was vandalized recently and this was the “last
straw” for a decision made to close the parking lot. This parking lot
was threatened due to Fish and Game concerns over the runoff and
erosion from the lot getting into the streams. Also, this parking lot
is the scene of many full moon raves – which has been an ongoing
problem for the forest management.

How does these two issues impact mountain biking at Demo? Severely.

* Trail work and any activities not associated with the timber harvest
will cease.

* They are planning a spring timber harvest in the Tractor area. They
plan to turn the Tractor Trail into a logging road (bye, bye
singletrack).

* The parking lot will be closed this winter thereby creating a
shortage of parking along Highland Way – which is less safe (break
ins, traffic).

Clearly, this issues are a serious threat to our enjoyment of Demo and
our way of life.

What can we do about it?

We have been in contact with Ed Orre – the Forest Manager of SDF – and
he has agreed to show up at the MBOSC meeting at Seabright Brewery on
Monday at 7 pm. He is a friend of mountain biking and is willing to
allow the MTB community to help out. We will be discussing these
issues and look for solutions. This meeting is only the beginning of
this process.

Clearly, this issue is bigger than MBOSC. I urge you speak to your
friends who enjoy demo who are not on these lists to get engaged in
this issue.

In the meantime, I’ll be riding Demo tomorrow and appreciating the
trails and terrain.

As usual Team Roaring Mouse brought the heat to the streets surrounding Levi Strauss Plaza in San Francisco for our hometown race. We set up on Mouse corner and grilled, raced, and hooted n’ hollered all day long. Highlight of the day: Marissa’s 2nd place in the W3 and then a top 20 in the W123.

Over the weekend Ben and Nole competed in the Far West International Style Omnium at Encino Velodrome in SoCal.  They learned a lot and had fun riding the steeper banking down there.  A steady overall performance and super teamwork from Nole allowed Ben to win the days event.  Glory To the Mouse!

Copperopolis 2009 was a Hoot!

The Mice had some incredibly gutsy performances, highlighted by Carrie Edwards dominating the women’s elite 3’s race, storming from off the back to off the front en route to a an impressive solo finish victory!

No great victory pic yet emerged, so this little “hey I’m sexy, check me out” look from Isaias will have to do for now.  all style!

This race is a beast!  anyone completing even a portion of their scheduled laps has gone to battle.  Congrats to all the mouse competitors, Liam, Sean, Sam, Hank, Mr. Tuffy, Tim, Nick, James, Dane, DP, Ryan, Bev, Bergen, and a special congrats to Jay Parkhill on the first of many strong finishes this year. and everyone, please give your bikes a thorough once over to check for broken stuff.

and congrats on dominating performances to Dan Murray aka Mr. Tuffy, Josh Chauvet, Dave Parrish, Ben Stern, OMD & PPH, Misses & Master Bates, Herr Weiner, and Ren (for tri-ing hard!) hard to even keep track of all the fantstic results! way to go team!

Nole and Ben made the trip down and pretty much cleaned up, taking 25% of the available cash en route to 2nd and 6th place finishes.  Ben ended up in the early break on lap 2 of 30 with a CVC rider and due to some savvy blocking by Nole and the rest of the CVC team, it stuck till the finish. 

Nole then put up a solid result in the field sprint and is showing signs of another april may domination this year!
